Achievements of the Australian Rainwater Harvesting Association of Australia

ARID Achievements

  • To ensure Australia had a nationally consistent rainwater guideline, ARID launched Version 1 of the HB230 Rainwater Tank Design and Installation Handbook in 2006. The Handbook provides a practical and technical information on rainwater harvesting installations, standards, materials, types of products, procedures, best practice and uses of rainwater. The Handbook is widely used by the Plumbers, Councils, Government Departments, Manufacturers, Hydraulic Consultants, Plumbing Industry Bodies, National Water Commission, Architects, Builders and Landscape Designers as their main reference source on Rainwater & Rainwater Harvesting.
  • The Handbook was updated again in 2008 to keep pace with emerging technology and the increased applications of rainwater use in an urban environment, and is consistent with the various regulations and local requirements.
  • ARID created and successfully launched and distributed Rainwater Guide for Consumers. Two edition’s, 2008 & 2009, via mainstream press and membership distribution to over 170,000 Australian Householders.
  • ARID is the only association that represents the rainwater harvesting industry in Australia. Membership comes from a wide cross section of the industry. (Tank, Pump, Filter Manufacturers, Industry Bodies, Educators, Environmental Specialist and Plumbing Merchants).
  • ARID provides an opportunity for the Rainwater Harvesting Industries to come together and discuss and resolve current issues. Some of the issues resolved; Training and education, uptake of Australian Standards, advice to regulators and legislators on rebate schemes, urban rainwater policy and strategies for the future. ARID meets quarterly on a rotation basis (Vic, NSW, Qld, ACT, SA) to ensure that we remain a national body and that all members are able to attend and contribute to and improve the industry.
  • ARID openly communicates with Government Departments & State & Federal Water Ministers on issues pertaining to the industry.
  • ARID has recently formed an alliance with “Save Water” to ensure we are able to further enhance and develop the Rainwater Harvesting Industry in Australia.
